Check out the final results of the LATACO.com (@LATACO) Taco Madness 2011 Los Angeles battle!

Congratulations to Mexicali Taco & Co., LA’s Favorite Taco for 2011
"Congratulations to both Mariscos Jalisco and Mexicali Taco & Co., who fought an epic battle late into the night all the way until the voting closed at midnight. The lead changed several times in the final 15 minutes, and ultimately Mexicali Taco & Co. was crowned the winner and will reign for one year as “LA’s Favorite Taco”.
If you’re reading this and still haven’t tried all 32 tacos on our list, or at least the final four of Ricky’s Fish Tacos, La Estrella, Mariscos Jalisco, and Mexicali Taco & Co., you need to do so now! We’re hoping to put together some sort of event in the near future to bring some of these amazing, hardworking taqueros together.
This was the best Taco Madness Yet. Thank you so much to everyone who voted, to all the sites that linked to us or wrote about Taco Madness, and most importantly to the 32 Taqueros who stepped up their game during our month-long competition. It was a lot of fun, and we can’t wait until next year!!!" - Via www.lataco.com

Im still hurtin a lil inside that Cactus didnt make it too far but, having over 30 other awesome taco spots in your town is not a bad thing! -Stu

Empanadas, the Argentinean taco? or a pre-manicure warmup?

Kat N Felix at Lala's
I cant really know, but apparently theres a hell of a lot more international awesomeness to em than i thought... I pretty much back any type of food that has a filling stuffed into any type of bread sort of product. So here's a little more info:
"An empanada is a stuffed bread or pastry baked or fried in many countries of Latin America and the south of Europe. The name comes from the verb empanar, meaning to wrap or coat in bread. Empanada is made by folding a dough or bread patty around the stuffing. The stuffing can consist of a variety of meats, vegetables, or even fruits." -Via Empanada wiki page
We went to Lalas on Melrose, pretty dam good, super fast diet coke refills and the chicken picante rules. And they put these peppers in the rice that i dig too... Heres a Yelp listing of some great Empanada joints in LA

double team massage add-on
And pretty much the best thing i can think of to do after eating em... Unless you have an archery range nearby... Obviously, is to get yer nails done...

Felix n I went for the shoulder massage add-on, Kat sprung for some kinda fancy gel nail situation where they put her hands it these tiny little ovens to make the polish extra strong... who knew... It was a good day.

...If you've got any types of food yer into, that aren't tacos, but sorta resemble them, that you think more people should know about... Lemme know, ill get into it here.

Make sure yer keepin' an eye on LaTaco.com's Los Angeles TacoMadness battle @LaTaco!:

Taco Madness 2011. They're on round 2 right now, down to "The Spicy 16".

The amazing and possibly my favorite in LA, Cactus Taco, already got smoked in round 1 by the Kogi truck, terribly disappointing... And in an even weirder and more exciting neck and neck matchup, Ricky's Fish Taco is up against Tito's right now...! You can vote on the site and keep an eye on the real time results... Almost as good as $1 beer Fridays at Hollywood Park...
Check out the action: www.LaTaco.com

Heres a recap of the showdown for ya:
"It’s that time of year again– as the nation looks to the hardwood courts, the city of Los Angeles goes bonkers for TACO MADNESS, our single elimination bracket-style tournament to decide LA’s favorite taco! We used a panel of TACO experts combined with reader submissions to rank the top 32 taco outlets in the city, and now the people will choose their favorite. It was very difficult to get down to only 32 locations in the USA’s taco mecca, so if you don’t see your favorite spot we’re sorry, and better luck next year.
Welcome to Round II: The Spicy 16. After several incredibly close battles, the winners have been chosen to move onto the next round, which features many intriguing battles. Round II voting starts today (Wednesday) and goes through Sunday night. Good luck to all of the top 16, and best wishes to those that didn’t quite make the cut this year…"

R.I.P. Julio's Mexican Grill :-(

One of my favorite random mini mall joints for a clean n simple good ass burrito, has gone down. Julio's Mexican Grill on Wilshire at La Brea....
R.I.P.
Photo from Nov '05

I used to live in this hood and randomly stopped by today, only to be stricken with sadness and disappointment. Was it because they raised the price of steak items by $.75 cus of some beef shortage I'm pretty sure they made up? Because my old roommate and I moved away? Or simply because they were too lazy to replace the missing "S" at the salsa bar? I'll never know... But I won't forget Julio's. One of the "picy"est burritos in LA.

On a lighter note I tore up a taco/enchilada combo at El Rancho Grande on Olvera Street today and it kicked ass.
